Mares

Our mares are the backbones of our breeding and since we had to retire some of the fully evaluated mares in the last years, we are happy to see some of their offspring growing up and taking their place. We have also purchased a couple of very exciting mares in Iceland that we cannot wait to see what they will bring for us.

Brood mares in Canada:

~ ROÐADÍS frá Sand Meadow ~ US2001201756
F: Garpur frá Auðsholtshjáleigu IS19951256106
M: Hera frá Hofi IS1991256106

Garpur received 1. Prize for Offspring with just 8 years old and a full evaluation of 8.39. Hera got a final score of 8.10, with rideability of 8.35. No wonder Roðadís turned out to be a great riding horse and broodmare! Evaluated with a 1. Prize for conformation; 8.5 for neck, shoulder, hooves and spirit and all other scores 8 – she gives way above average offspring like Mídas and Glóría frá Vindsdalur.

~ DJÁSN frá Vindsdalur ~ CA2008202247
F: Stígandi frá Leysingjarstöðum IS1996156333
M: Ugla frá Stekkjardal IS1986256524

Djásn is not only half-sister to Blær, but also the only direct offspring of Ugla, who was for many years our prime broodmare and my favourite riding horse. That leaves Djásn in a special spot – that, and the fact that she produces incredible offspring, who will leave their mark!

Djásn is fully evaluated with 8,5 for leg quality, joint correctness, as well as trot, gallop and 8 for spirit, canter and proportions. She is well trained, with a strong tölt and more pace then she showed at that insanely hot evaluation day (it was +35C). Powerful like her mother with good control – a true Icelandic powerhouse!

~ EILÍF frá Blesastaðir ~ IS2014287806
F: Krákur frá Blesastaðir IS2002187812
M: Hrafnkatla frá Blesastaðir IS206287805

Krákur received 1. Prize for progeny and with over 650 offspring – so it´s about time there is one in Canada!

Both of Eilíf’s parents have incredible evaluation scores and while she still needs to get more training and then her own evaluation – we are over the moon to add Eilíf and her lineage to our breeding. Eilíf came to us pregnant with SKÝR frá Skálakoti, IS2007184162 who has an overall score of 8.70, was Landsmót qualified in breeding and sport several times and received Honour Prize for Offspring in 2020!

We are excited…

~ GLORÍA frá Vindsdalur ~ CA2015202560
F: Blævar frá Vindsdalur CA2011102407
M: Roðadís frá Sand Meadow US2001201756

Gloría is now being added to our breeding program. We would have loved to present her at a breeding show, but unfortunately there are no shows planned in North America at the moment. Gloría was awarded the Best Young Horse of North America in 2016, she really is something special! Her happy-go-lucky character makes her a joy to train and her looks and gait quality are something we are hoping to see in her offspring in the future.

Brood mares in Iceland:

Grafík has unfortunately passed, but we have 3 amazing offspring from her. Kjarval, our young stallion in Canada, and two young mares in Iceland; Krít and Björk.

~ GRAFÍK frá Búlandi~ IS2005265229
F: Þóroddur frá Þóroddsstöðum IS1999188801
M: Myndlist frá Akureyri IS1995265591

This amazing little spitfire, Grafík frá Búlandi, will now be joining the Vindsdalur breeding program in Iceland! She is out of Gustur frá Hóli daughter, Myndlist frá Akureyri and has double Gáski in her mother’s line, an absolute favorite of ours. Her father is the amazing Þóroddur frá Þóroddsstöðum.
Grafík has 8,38 for rideabilities and was many years very successful on the competition track with her previous owner, reaching up to 7,10 in five-gait! The funnest thing is that Jelena actually started her out under saddle many years ago, and loved her right away. Full circle. Grafík is pregnant with Fenrir frá Feti, and now Spring just can’t arrive fast enough!!

~ KARA frá Meðalfelli ~ IS2002225086
F: Orri frá Þúfu IS1986186055
M: Kleó frá Meðalfelli IS1985225006

Kara is a beautifully build, strong and willing five gaiter that Jelena had with her in her third year of Hólar. She has even 5 gaits and a lot of power, out of the famous Orri frá Þúfu. Kara has an overall breeding score of 7,93 with first prize for conformation. She has brought some great offspring already, such as the Steggur daughter Reisn frá Reykjavík and Loki daughter Horfin frá Reykjavík, located in Germany. This fall we are starting a very handsome gelding out of Atlas frá Hjallanesi and are looking forward to see him develop. Her offspring have her good confirmation, light build and strong legs and often a playful and very friendly character.
