About Us

Our goal is to bring expertise to the Icelandic horse enthusiasts in Canada, combining over 30 years of experience as well as an Hólar education.

Lisi Ohm grew up with a typical dressage education in Germany but always had the dream of an Icelandic horse. Our first Icelandic horse was Vinur (means Friend), a grey four-gaiter that lived with us until the ripe age of 28. He taught an innumerable number of students, including daughter Jelena, who even won several dressage tournaments with him against other breeds!

Vinur – a friend for life

We moved to Canada in 1994 along with three Icelandic horses and they quickly began to multiply, as they tend to do. Lisi is a FEIF Level 1 instructor and helped create a riding school curriculum in Canada and taught it for several years, organized some of the first Breed Evaluations in BC, as well as several sport shows, and was among the first farm in BC to only breed with fully evaluated horses. She also trained countless Icelandic horses, from our own farm and for other breeders as well. Lisi and Jelena partook in countless demonstrations to introduce the Icelandic horse to West Canada.

In 2001, Vindsdalur hosted the FEIF Youth Camp, with 17 kids from around the world. This is where Jelena´s more serious Icelandic horse story began as she was then asked to be a Team Leader at the 2002 Youth Cup in Sweden. There she met several great trainers, one of them was the renowned Walter Feldmann. She started working for Walter in March 2003 and was immersed into the Icelandic horse world completely, competing for Canada at the 2003 World Championships.

In 2004, Jelena arrived in Iceland amidst a January snowstorm. She worked and trained for Þingeyrar and Sveinsstaðir, horse farms in North Iceland and started her education at Hólar University in the fall. Jelena graduated as a Riding Instructor and Trainer in 2009 and had a training stable in South Iceland and taught a lot, mostly in Iceland, Germany, and Canada.

In the Spring of 2018 Lisi and Dan relocated to Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia.

Jelena now lives with her husband, Bjarni Freyr, and their two young kids in Reykjavík, Iceland, where they have a stable and a small breeding program.

Together, we aim to offer clinics and support for Icelandic horse enthusiasts in the Maritimes. We are excited about our promising young mares and stallions and plan to expand our breeding program in both countries.
